Two very different faces of Burgenland, ranging from the sandy and gravelly soils near the lake to the cooler schist and limestone parcels on the hillsides.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch3\u003eOld vines and viticulture that leaves room for life\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIn his vineyards, Christian seeks above all to intervene as little as possible and to let the plants find their own balance. The parcels are farmed\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eorganically\u003c\/strong\u003e, with an approach largely inspired by biodynamics, cover crops, and no synthetic products. Some vines were planted in the\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cstrong\u003e1960s\u003c\/strong\u003e, while some parcels in Leithaberg reach densities close to\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cstrong\u003e9,000 vines per hectare\u003c\/strong\u003e. He works with a great diversity of grape varieties, including\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eGrüner Veltliner, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Blanc, Blaufränkisch, Zweigelt, Syrah, and Cabernet Franc\u003c\/strong\u003e, sometimes with several varieties grown in the same parcel.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch3\u003eFree wines, but far from left to chance\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIn the cellar, Christian \u003cspan class=\"il\"\u003eTschida\u003c\/span\u003e likes to define himself more as a\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cstrong\u003e\"tuner\" than a winemaker\u003c\/strong\u003e: his work consists mainly of guiding the grapes rather than imposing a direction on them. Fermentations start spontaneously with\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eindigenous yeasts\u003c\/strong\u003e, pressings are particularly gentle, and aging can be long, often in\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cstrong\u003elarge neutral barrels\u003c\/strong\u003e. Since the\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cstrong\u003e2013\u003c\/strong\u003e vintage, no sulfur has been added during winemaking, and the wines are bottled\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cstrong\u003ewithout fining or filtration\u003c\/strong\u003e.
