👨🏼🌾 White wine made by Domaine Félys.

Here is a white wine made from red grapes that really stands out from the crowd! With Miraculum, the Clos des B team vinifies Grenache Noir as a white wine, preserving all its generosity without the color. Aged in oak, the wine develops a beautiful texture, with ripe white fruits, citrus, some floral notes, and a touch of sweet spice. The palate is full-bodied and luscious, yet retains enough freshness to never feel heavy. A Provençal white with character, worth taking the time to discover with roasted fish or a beautiful voclaille.

Clos des B, vibrant wines overlooking the Mediterranean

Gwendolyn and Jean-Jacques, between Grimaud and Ramatuelle

A few kilometers from the sea, Gwendolyn and Jean-Jacques built Clos des B around plots located in Grimaud and Ramatuelle, in the Gulf of Saint-Tropez. Gwendolyn grew up in the area with a long-standing desire to make wine; after several years of research, the couple found these terraces overlooking the Mediterranean and made them the starting point of the estate. Today, Clos des B covers 13.5 hectares, including 10.5 in production, with a majority of old vines and a real diversity of Provençal grape varieties.

Schist, quartz and old vines a stone's throw from the sea

In Grimaud, the vines plunge into schist sands crossed by quartz veins, while in Ramatuelle the soils mix more sands and clay-limestones. The proximity of the sea and its maritime inlets bring real freshness to this very sunny area. We find notably old Carignans over 70 years old, Cinsaults around 50 years old, Mourvèdre, Grenache, but also Tibouren and Syrah. The estate chose biodynamics, with manual harvesting, sorting directly in the vineyards then in small crates to bring in the healthiest grapes possible.

A Provence that breaks the mold

In the cellar, Clos des B continues this logic with indigenous yeasts, gentle vinification and, on several cuvées, no added sulfites, no fining nor filtration. The estate is by no means limited to rosé: it produces reds like Lou Dilun, Les Poupettes or Terre Mère, but also Le Miracle, an amazing Blanc de Noirs of Grenache. Sunny wines in their origin but which retain freshness, juice and a small saline footprint linked to this immediate proximity with the Mediterranean. A living Provence, far from the standardized rosés that are still too often associated with the region.

A superb shop offering some truly beautiful natural wines that are off the beaten path. One drawback: the bottles are generally very expensive; it would be nice to expand the range to include more affordable/pleasure wines.

Several sets of specifications correspond to these designations. While sulfites are very often mentioned, rightly accused of causing headaches, many other products can be included in the composition of so-called conventional wines.
Here is an overview of the different specifications for organic, biodynamic and natural products:
The organic farming specifications (AB label) prohibit the use of any synthetic chemicals in the vineyards and winery. However, they do allow for some oenological safeguards during the winemaking process. Sulfites, for example, are permitted up to 100 mg/L for red wines and 150 mg/L for white wines.

In biodynamic winemaking (Demeter or Biodyvin certified), the winemaker not only works without synthetic chemicals but also takes the lunar calendar into account for all their operations. They also use biodynamic preparations (fermented horn manure, silica, herbal teas, etc.) to strengthen the vines. Overall, the winemaker seeks to integrate viticulture into a holistic environment. Sulfite levels can reach up to 70 mg/L for red wines and 90 mg/L for white wines.

In natural winemaking (Vin Méthode Nature label), the specifications require the use of organic grapes, fermenting naturally with indigenous yeasts (as in biodynamic winemaking). Natural wines receive no additives during the entire vinification and aging process. Only minimal doses of SO2 are permitted (30 mg/L maximum), and these must be declared by the winemaker. No harsh filtration or alteration techniques are allowed.

We are committed to offering you wines from artisan producers, from small, often family-run estates. That's why we take the time to travel across France, from vineyard to vineyard, in search of those natural wines that truly resonate with us.
We are particularly keen to introduce you to the new winemakers of tomorrow who work tirelessly to offer us magnificent wines.
