Clos des B, vibrant wines overlooking the Mediterranean

Gwendolyn and Jean-Jacques, between Grimaud and Ramatuelle

A few kilometres from the sea, Gwendolyn and Jean-Jacques built the Clos des B around plots located in Grimaud and Ramatuelle, in the Gulf of Saint-Tropez. Gwendolyn grew up in the area with a long-held desire to make wine; after several years of research, the couple found these terraces overlooking the Mediterranean and made them the starting point of the estate. Today, the Clos des B comprises 13.5 hectares, 10.5 of which are in production, with a majority of old vines and a real diversity of Provençal grape varieties.

Schist, quartz and old vines a stone's throw from the sea

In Grimaud, the vines plunge into schist sands crossed by quartz veins, while in Ramatuelle the soils combine more sands and clay-limestones. The proximity of the sea and its maritime inlets bring real freshness to this otherwise very sunny area. We find notably old Carignan vines over 70 years old, Cinsault vines around 50 years old, Mourvèdre, Grenache, but also Tibouren and Syrah. The estate has chosen biodynamics, with hand harvesting, sorting directly in the vineyards and then in small crates to bring in the healthiest grapes possible.

A Provence that breaks the mold

In the cellar, the Clos des B continues this logic with indigenous yeasts, gentle vinification and, for several cuvées, no added sulfites, no fining or filtration. The estate is by no means limited to rosé: it produces reds such as Lou Dilun, Les Poupettes or Terre Mère, but also Le Miracle, an astonishing Blanc de Noirs Grenache. Sunny wines in their origin but which retain freshness, juice and a small saline imprint linked to this immediate proximity to the Mediterranean. A living Provence, far from the standardized rosés that are still too often associated with the region.
